Communications officers develop, implement and evaluate communications & promotions strategies and programs designed to inform clients, employees and the general public of initiatives and policies of businesses, governments and other organizations. As well they maintain media relations on behalf of their employers and design campaigns aimed at the local, national and international markets.

What you do

A Communications Officer performs some or all of the following duties:

  • Gather, research and prepare communications material for internal and external audiences
  • Prepare or oversee preparation of reports, briefs, bibliographies, speeches, presentations, Web sites and press releases
  • Develop and organize workshops, meetings, ceremonies and other events for publicity, fundraising and information purposes
  • Initiate and maintain contact with the media
  • Act as spokesperson for an organization and answer written and oral inquiries
  • Co-ordinate special publicity events and promotions for internal and external audiences

  • Ability to be resourceful
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English/French)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are essential
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Strong computer and word processing skills
